Key Science Goals for the Next-Generation Event Horizon Telescope

نویسندگان

چکیده

The Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) has led to the first images of a supermassive black hole, revealing central compact objects in elliptical galaxy M87 and Milky Way. Proposed upgrades this array through next-generation EHT (ngEHT) program would sharply improve angular resolution, dynamic range, temporal coverage existing observations. These improvements will uniquely enable wealth transformative new discoveries related hole science, extending from event-horizon-scale studies strong gravity explosive transients cosmological growth influence holes. Here, we present key science goals for ngEHT their associated instrument requirements, both which have been formulated multi-year international effort involving hundreds scientists worldwide.

A Next-Generation Telescope for CFHT

It is argued that Canadian astronomers, in particular, will require access to more large telescope time than currently being planned and that French astronomers will require access to Northern facilities. It is also argued that it is probable that the new 8m class telescopes will out-perform CFHT in delivered image quality and be more cost-eeective in operation, so that CFHT will eventually hav...

Science Goals for an Antarctic Large Infrared Telescope

Over the past few years, site-testing at the South Pole has revealed conditions that are uniquely favorable for infrared astronomy. In particular, the exceptionally low sky brightness throughout the nearand mid-infrared leads to the possibility of a modest-sized telescope achieving comparable sensitivity to that of existing 8—10 metre class telescopes. An 8 m Antarctic telescope, if constructed...

Key Technologies for the next-generation Internet

It is not an exaggeration to say that we are currently living in the “Age of the Internet”. In the past few years, the Internet has witnessed a phenomenal growth and affected the average man’s life in no ways that were predictable or even dreamed of when the initial designers of the Internet started working on ARPANET (the early conception of the current Internet) in the 60’s. The growth in the...
